Since the introduction of ceramic inkjet printing machines into China and their widespread application in the research and production of ceramic products, the patterns, colors, and textures of ceramic products have been further enriched. Up to now, ceramic inkjet printing machines have been involved in various products such as exterior wall tiles, interior wall tiles, wear-resistant tiles, antique tiles, small floor tiles, and fully glazed tiles.

With the development of domestic ceramic inkjet printing machine enterprises, there are now professional R&D and production enterprises of ceramic inkjet printing machines such as Meijia, Hope, Taiwei, Jingtao, Caishen, and Donghai. The widespread application of ceramic inkjet printing machines in ceramic production cannot avoid improper operation or common printhead blockage faults.

It is understood that clogging of the printhead holes is one of the common causes of malfunction and damage in ceramic inkjet printing machines. The prerequisite for ensuring stable ink ejection from the printhead is that the viscosity of the ink must be constant. At present, due to the different types of solvents used in different brands of ink, the specific gravity of solvents and solutes in ceramic ink varies greatly, which can easily precipitate and cause printhead blockage. For this reason, industry insiders suggest that before selecting ink for machine use, ceramic technicians should carefully conduct relevant tests in the ink supply system, such as testing the compatibility of components such as pipelines, filters, and ink pumps that come into contact with ink with ink, to ensure that the components used are not “dissolved” by ink or reduce their lifespan. At the same time, the adaptability of different models and brands of printhead to ink viscosity and other indicators varies. Testing should be conducted before use, and communication should be made with ink suppliers and equipment manufacturers.

In addition, ink dripping caused by wire drawing is a common issue that affects the quality and continuous production of ceramic inkjet printing machines during the production process. The cause of the problem also comes from the blockage of the printhead. The printhead and ink dots are both micrometer sized, and small impurities, dust, and water vapor are enough to block the printhead or block the ejected ink dots.

Normally, printhead blockage is mainly divided into internal blockage and external blockage. Internal blockage of the printhead is generally caused by two reasons: ink path pollution and ink deposition. Incomplete cleaning of newly installed parts can easily cause ink contamination. Chen Junjia, the general manager of Foshan Langxin Machinery Co., Ltd., which has long been dedicated to the research and development of inkjet printer accessories and roller printing machines, believes that strict cleaning is required before replacing parts. At the same time, a suitable filter should be selected for the machine, otherwise, too coarse can easily cause printhead blockage, and too fine can cause the filter itself to clog. As for the factors related to ink sedimentation, they are closely related to the ink suspension and the ink supply system of the machine itself. A good supply system can ensure that the printhead maintains smooth printhead holes and sufficient ink supply during standby, continuous full printing, and small intermittent printing. Otherwise, there will be frequent blockage of holes, uneven spraying of small amounts of ink, and insufficient supply of large amounts of ink, resulting in defects of yin and yang colors.

As for the reason for the external blockage of the printhead. Usually caused by the machine itself or external pollution. External sources of pollution include dust from the workshop, mud dust and water vapor brought in by bricks. The pollution caused by the machine itself prevents the ink dots sprayed by the printhead from adhering to the brick surface, floating up and finally falling onto the printhead. Over time, it will accumulate more and more. Regarding how to alleviate the phenomenon of printhead blockage, Chen Junjia said that before entering the inkjet machine room, the bricks can be “cleaned” to reduce the mud and dust pollution brought in by the bricks. The usual practice is to lower the temperature to below 40 ℃, with almost no water vapor coming out, and install multiple hair dryers to blow away the burrs, glaze powder, dust, etc. of the blank body, in order to reduce the pollution brought into the inkjet room by the workshop. The performance of continuous and stable production is the most important indicator to measure the quality of an inkjet printer. When using ceramic inkjet printing machines, ceramic enterprises should operate them correctly according to the relevant conditions of the machine, and pay attention to the maintenance and upkeep of the machine.
